As a Queen Mother, Daughter, Sister, Mother and now “Grandma,” Nana Yaa (currently located in Baltimore by way of South Carolina) has been a member of the Circle Of Light since 2016. Since I was a teenager, it has always been my passion to learn the healing ways of old, with the intention of doing my part to help heal our African community.  After graduating from the University of Maryland as a Political Science major, I initially felt that as a lawyer, I would train to be of service to my community.  But at some point, I always felt in my heart that there was another road that I should be traveling.  This led me to study natural healing.  Deep inside I questioned: “Is there a better way to heal myself without completely depending on Western thought and methods?  There’s excitement and wonder in discovering how much we have at our disposal – hundreds of herbs, essential oils, healing stones, massage, meditation, etc.  Thus, my focus at this point in my life is helping to heal women of all ages, with the purpose of passing on this information to the next generation. “If You Heal a Woman, You Heal a Nation.” **

Nana Yaa is a traditional healer and priestess in the Akom tradition from Ghana. In July 2023, she was enstooled as a Queen Mother (Nana Sanahemma- Queen Mother of Finance) in Abiriw, Ghana. She currently serves as the Co-Director for Ohemma Ku (Queens Society).
